There is so much going on in the world, and I assume that, like myself, many are feeling overwhelmed. I don’t yet have wisdom for weeding through the constant influx of news, for determining the right places to devote energy, for being the best ally to yourself and your neighbors during uncertain times. What I do know, is that we must all continue our work combating hate. We must persist in our effort to make our corners of the world kind, and welcoming for all.
Slow Food Denver is committed to continuing our ongoing work to make the world a better, safer, more nutritious and inclusive place for everyone. We are motivated to continue creating safe spaces for Denver residents to learn, grow, cook, and eat together. Each of our respective classrooms will welcome everyone to learn from Seed to Plate and FED instructors alike. Our lessons will continue highlighting the beauty and wisdom of various cultures. The Snail of Approval program will continue recognizing the efforts of local establishments striving to make the Denver food scene more equitable and sustainable. We will persist.
Next month, we will offer an opportunity to gather together and support local producers of wine. Colorado Winemakers will travel to Denver for our second installment of the Colorado Wine Tasting FED Workshop taking place in the Highlands neighborhood (address disclosed with ticket purchase). The event will feature a Grand Tasting, allowing attendees to chat with these creators while samping their offerings. Furthermore, Advanced Sommelier Logan Silbert will return to offer VIP experiences for a second year. Due to the popularity of this opportunity last year, we are providing two VIP segments. Join us for this afternoon of celebrating, learning, and communing together as we uplift the producers of Colorado.

The FED Workshop program will then take April off in preparation for a busy May, during which we will host our second Panel Discussion on May 7th in collaboration with Denver Food Rescue & Patagonia as well as a series of foraging classes. The series will bring you both backyard and trail workshops, exploring the edible elements of all environments. For the following months, we are working to bring you other exciting classes. More information about those will be coming soon.
Seed to Plate has received a generous grant from the Monfort Family Foundation to help continue our work with the next generation of consumers. Learn more about our grant funding on our website. Furthermore, we recently launched a page on our website outlining sponsorship opportunities. This aims to provide our community with quick access to our funding needs, and welcome funders into giving opportunities. Reach out to receive the sponsorship package for each opportunity.
Our Youth Education program has also recently welcomed Quinn Kernell, Ashley Murdock, Brianna Angulo, Mario Esparza, and Regina Romero to the instructor team. All five bring unique perspectives and skills to classrooms. Learn more about these new additions as they get added to our website team page.
As mentioned in the newsletter, Slow Food Boulder has been putting together some very special events in the new year. From kicking things off with a CSA Fair to mixing it up in a distillery classes and fermenting workshop, the chapter is bringing you connections and information from many sources. We recommend checking out their upcoming events, and learning a new skill.
Recently, we had the honor of welcoming Ekar Farm to the Snail of Approval family with a much deserved award. This local organization is doing important, impactful work bringing fresh, farm grown produce to underserved communities in the city. Additionally, they provide education opportunities on the farm for children and volunteers alike. Ekar moved to a new farm in 2024 and is currently hiring for their farm crew. Check out the opportunity on their website.

It takes a village, and the village is alive and bustling in Denver. We are lucky to live in a place filled with so many people motivated to move forward. I encourage you to stay plugged in to local grassroots efforts. Let them be a source of inspiration, positivity, motivation, and support. Slow Food Denver continues to offer volunteer opportunities in our classrooms, providing valuable cooking and gardening skills to Denver classrooms. Join our efforts or the efforts of any of the numerous organizations providing paths for positive change – Grow Local Colorado, Denver Food Rescue, We Don’t Waste, Ekar Farm, Access Gallery, Spirit of the Sun, Denver Urban Gardens, Grow Food Feed People, and countless others. Be an agent of change, of joy, of momentum. As always, we are grateful for each and every one of our community members.
