Sprouts Foundation Press Release

SLOW FOOD DENVER RECEIVES TRANSFORMATIONAL GRANT TO EXPAND YOUTH EDUCATION ON HEALTHY FOOD

Denver, CO 12/11/2024: Slow Food Denver is excited to announce that it has received a generous grant from the Sprouts Healthy Communities Foundation, which will enable us to expand our Seed to Plate youth education program and deepen our efforts to provide local youth with hands-on experiences in growing, preparing, and enjoying healthy foods.

The Sprouts Healthy Communities Foundation, established in 2015, is dedicated to improving community health by broadening access to healthy foods and promoting nutrition education, particularly among children. Their support will directly benefit Slow Food Denver's youth programs, empowering the next generation with the knowledge and skills to make healthier food choices.

These funds will support the expansion of Slow Food Denver’s Seed to Plate program, which engages youth in the entire process of growing, harvesting, and cooking their own food. The program emphasizes experiential learning and encourages students to try new foods, create nutritious meals, and develop a deeper connection to where their food comes from. Thanks to this grant, we will be able to serve an additional 300 students in Denver schools this year, equipping them with skills for healthier, lifelong eating habits.

We are incredibly grateful to the Sprouts Healthy Communities Foundation for their support and commitment to building healthier communities. This partnership will help us continue our mission of fostering food education and accessibility for youth in Denver, ensuring that the next generation grows up with the knowledge to make healthier food choices. “This grant will help us reach more young people in our community, fostering a generation that is not only excited about healthy food but also equipped with the skills to grow and prepare it themselves," said Lilly Steirer, Executive Director of Slow Food Denver.
