Overview

Local and seasonal food, grown by farmers and ranchers who follow sustainable practices, is the freshest, tastiest and most nutritious food we can enjoy. It used to be the kind and quality of food that people—even those of us who live in the city, always ate. By now, we have almost forgotten what it tastes like to eat truly “fresh” food—whether made at home, crafted by a local food artisan, or prepared in a restaurant--or how much fun it is to shop at a local market that carries handmade, locally-crafted products. Instead, we are used to consuming food grown and made thousands of miles away and shipped to our big supermarket chains and restaurants. If you are not willing to settle for less than the fresh and nutritious taste of homegrown food, we encourage you to support our local food producers and retailers instead. Every time you purchase and/or eat local foods you become part of an expanding movement that can impact the entire food community in a positive way. It will also help to make sure that many kinds of produce, meat, poultry, dairy and other locally-produced food products continue to be available for your enjoyment.
